Hogs for the Cause, a fundraiser that annually draws 90 top barbecue teams and 15,000 eaters to New Orleans, is coming to Charleston this fall.

The event benefitting pediatric brain cancer research will be held at Patriot's Point on Oct. 4. Although The Grove's space limitations will prevent organizers from replicating the competition format that's been synonymous with the party since 2009, Hogs for the Cause's director says the Charleston event will feature six to eight South Carolina pitmasters.

"We want to recreate a mock "Trail of SC BBQ" portraying all four sauces in the state," Becker Hall says, comparing the planned arrangement to New York City's Big Apple BBQ Block Party.

"There will be a premier music line-up as well," Hall adds.

MUSC Children's Hospital recently partnered with Hogs for the Cause, which has supported the family of Sam Lee, who was profiled in the Post and Courier earlier this year.

Hall anticipates having further details regarding the line-up available soon; To stay abreast of the event, visit hogsforthecause.org.
