A 42-year-old woman said she was driving down River Road on Wednesday night when she saw money blowing in the wind near a gas station.
The woman picked up $260 and handed the bills to Charleston County deputies who were outside the Johns Island store, according to an incident report.
It turned out the money was from a confrontation that resulted in a man being shot outside the Kangaroo gas station at Main and River roads, according to deputies.
Deputies were dispatched about 7 p.m. to check out a report of a man being shot. A wounded man ran to a silver or gray vehicle that quickly drove from the area, an incident report states. A car matching the description was stopped on Interstate 526. Investigators determined that the wounded man had been dropped off at St. Francis Hospital with minor injuries.
Witnesses said the gunman fled the store behind the wheel of a green sport-utility vehicle. The SUV was located on Walpole Way later Wednesday night.
Fabian Hernandez, 30 of Walpole Way on Johns Island was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
